AeroMac vs Macs Fan Control vs TG Pro
Three fan control apps for Macs, compared on price, compatibility, control modes and what happens to your fans when something goes wrong.
We make AeroMac, so read this with that in mind. Every claim about Macs Fan Control and TG Pro below comes from their own product pages, linked at the end, as checked on 29 October 2026. Where a vendor doesn't say something, the table says so rather than guessing. AeroMac is not affiliated with either app.
The short answer
- Choose Macs Fan Control if you want a free app that's available today, you use an Intel Mac, or you also need fan control in Windows through Boot Camp.
- Choose TG Pro if you want temperature alerts, email notifications, CSV logging and hardware diagnostics, or you need support for macOS versions older than macOS 14.
- Choose AeroMac, once it's released, if you want multi-point custom fan curves and fans that go back to macOS Automatic on every failure path you can name: quitting, a crash, the helper stopping, sleep and the end of a trial.

Where they differ
Price and licence
TG Pro and AeroMac are priced almost the same: a one-time payment of about ten dollars, no subscription, a 14-day trial, and up to three Macs for personal use. Macs Fan Control is free, with a one-time Pro licence, sold per Mac, that adds saved custom presets and priority support.
Compatibility
This is where the other two are clearly ahead today. Both support Intel and Apple Silicon Macs and are available now. TG Pro lists macOS 10.14 to macOS 27. AeroMac's first release covers Apple Silicon Macs with fans on macOS 14 or later, and lists a model as supported only after it passes testing.
How you control the fans
All three can hold a fan at a constant speed and tie its speed to a temperature sensor. Macs Fan Control ties speed to a sensor; TG Pro's Auto Boost rules raise fan speed when a sensor reaches a temperature you set. AeroMac adds a custom curve of two to ten points that you drag into shape, starting from Quiet, Balanced or Performance templates. Our guide to fan curves shows the exact values of those templates.
What happens when something goes wrong
Macs Fan Control says that when it quits, it always restores all fans to Auto. TG Pro's product page doesn't say. AeroMac returns fans to macOS Automatic when the app quits or crashes, when its helper stops, before sleep and when a trial ends. If a sensor that a curve depends on goes missing, it runs the fans at full speed instead of guessing. Whichever app you use, you can check this yourself: set a speed you can hear, quit the app, and listen for the fans to settle.
Monitoring
TG Pro has the broadest monitoring of the three, with alerts, email notifications, CSV logs and diagnostics such as last shutdown cause. AeroMac shows temperatures, fan speeds, power, battery and memory with a 30-minute history and the essentials in the menu bar, but has no alerts or log export. Macs Fan Control shows fan speeds and sensor temperatures, with a configurable menu bar display.
Use one at a time
Whichever you pick, run only one fan controller. Two apps write the same fan settings and fight. Before switching, set the old app to Automatic and quit it.
Common questions
What is the best fan control app for an Apple Silicon Mac?
It depends on what you need. Macs Fan Control is free and widely used. TG Pro adds alerts, logging and hardware diagnostics. AeroMac, once released, is built around custom fan curves and returning fans to macOS Automatic whenever anything goes wrong. All three support Apple Silicon Macs with fans.
Is there a free Mac fan control app?
Yes. Macs Fan Control has a free version with constant-speed and sensor-based control. AeroMac and TG Pro are paid apps with 14-day free trials.
Can I run two fan control apps at once?
No. Two fan controllers write the same fan settings and fight each other. Set the old app to Automatic and quit it before using another.
